On feeling stuck

Revaluation of your life

Dear reader,
Sunday is the ideal moment to take a step back and reevaluate everything that has been going on in your previous week.
See this message as a reminder to take your time to reflect.
If you never reflect, you will always be chasing the same superficial goals without ever reaching happiness. You will always be discontent about the amount of stuff you (not) got done in a given week.
In this newsletter I will help you to get unstuck while using reflection.

Without deep reflection one knows from daily life that one exists for other people.
Albert Einstein

Past, present and future

In order to know how to get unstuck in one life, you need to be able to ask yourself a couple of questions. Pick a piece of paper (or not) and try to answer the following questions.

What went wrong?
First you need to reflect about your past. We cannot live in the past but we can learn a lot from the past. The past tells us stories about our failures and how we dealt with this failures. The most important step at this point, is to see where the tipping point was. Where did things start to get wrong? Reflect now about the thoughts and feelings that where going on in your mind around that tipping point. How did you react when you felt like you where losing all grip on life? If you answered this question, you have reached the point to go to the next question.

Where am I right now?
Second you need to think about the present. The present tells where you are currently stuck at. It gives you an insight at your current feelings and struggles. Most importantly the present is the only place you can do something about your situation.
When you know your place right now, you can think about a strategy. You can think about what little steps you can take today to be a bit closer to where you want to be. In order to know where you want to be, you must answer the next question.

Where do I want to head towards?
The future brings us dreams and imagination. The future allows us to focus on long term goals instead of instant gratification. You need to know where you want to head towards. Otherwise you will be living a life according to the means of other people. Take charge of your own future by knowing who you want to be in 5 or 10 years. The best strategy is built with the future in mind.

The key is taking responsibility and initiative, deciding what your life is about and prioritizing your life around the most important things.
Stephen Covey

What do I need to reevaluate to change my future?
Your life is build around principles, habits and systems. First you need to know what your most important principles, habits and systems in life are. Second you need to challenge them constantly in order to find out which one fit in your life right now.
It starts with awareness. It proceeds to a will to change and it ends with action!

Stories and articles I would love to share

Newsletter from Cal Newport
This newsletter fits nicely into the topic of feeling overwhelmed and stuck. A listener of the podcast of Cal Newport asked them what they should do if they feel overwhelmed buy their current obligations and tasks.

His advice was to resist the temptation. Resist the temptation of getting into endless loops of answering e-mails or other tasks without really getting anything productive done. Use a minimalist task manager like a plain text editor. Be precise about how much time you allocate to each given task. Start your day with looking at this list and think about each action you need to tackle in order to complete the entire task.

Own your task management system. Choose the six (or more) important tasks of the day and commit to them. Take your responsibility of your organisation system.

Living a mediocre life is a mindset issue (By DAN KOE)
Your life is represented by the mindset you have. If you have a mindset in which you want to learn more and proceed in life, you are up for a better than average life. If you adjust your mindset to the masses and choose for comfort, you set yourself up for a mediocre life.

Video of the week

Physical attractiveness is one of the most valued traits men search in females according to society. I give my opinion about this in my brand new video.

I find ambition really attractive too - if someone's good at something they love doing. I want someone who is driven.
